I've been testing DVDA2.0. It's such a great software. However, I've got a problem here. One of my projects rates 5,5 GB. It's made up of a menu and a submenu with 5 videos, one of them a thirty minute cartoon. I was trying to make some subtitles for this cartoon. Everything was going on perfectly, but almost at the end, when I was about to finish those subtitles, the application crashes at a certain point (doesn't let me play the timeline, neither put some more subtitles). A screen pops up saying: an error occurred during the current operation. An Exception has occurred. This is what I get among the details:

I thought this problem was related with the size of the project, what of course wouldn't be any problem because I've burned the same project before. Let's see why I don't think it's a problem related to the project size: after choosing prepare and burn, the application says the generated video file is too big. I open DVD Shrink and re-author the recently generated file. Then I can open the re-authored file and burn the DVD. So, the problem is not with the size of the project. The problem is with previewing the project.

This same problem (crashing) happened before when I tried to preview this 30 minute file. Since setting subtitles is a process that works along with the timeline and previewing (timeline on the right, at the bottom of the screen), same problem doesn't let me set more subtitles for the video file. When you close the screen with the error warning, the application crashes imediately.
I've tried to copy and paste same file to another project, opening 2 instances of DVDA2.0. Same problem happens. Same thing. I hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advance.
PS: an important detail - I DID NOT INSTALL NET FRAMEWORK. WOULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM?

  2. I'm using this program too now, I was wondering, did you make sure all your windows is updated ? (I don't have the .net either, so that's not the issue) for example the MSVCRT dll's ? have you tried checking if you have latest ones ?

No. I dont know what are those dlls. What are they for?
By the way, SONY has just answered my message in their forum (DVD Architect Software) - you can search my message and read it there. They said it's probably an ill formed MPEG. Can you believe that? Well, I can't because I open the same MPEG file with Subtitle Workshop and everything works very well. I just don't want to work with Subtitle Workshop since it doesn't support AC-3 files and I would have to render again the whole thing to listen to the soundtrack and decide when to insert subtitles. Got it? - I rendered both files separately - AC-3 for the soundtrack and MPEG2 for the video.
Furthermore, trying to open that same MPEG file with Vegas 5.0, doesn't help that much because Vegas crashes as DVDA 2.0 does at the same point (almost at the end of the file).
What a problem! Don't know what to do.

  4. That's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of Sony, they have the worst kind of support ever! when I asked about how to lock the First Play item so it can not be skipped, they said it's not possible, when all I had to do was disable the remote buttons

    Anyway, try this link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support...NoWebContent=1
    It's updates for the MSVCRT
I'm not sure if this is the latest one, but I hope it helps out!

Thank you very much. But can you please give more details on downloading this file? What are those dll for?
    Thanks a lot!

  6. Those DLL's are being used in most applications, i'm not sure it will help you, but having the latest usually helps. These the Visual C++ Libraries which are in use by most programs.

    Thanks for the hint.
I've just found out the problem: it's (MAY BE) the file. I've made a new project containing that only "defective MPEG file". Then, I've set DVDA to prepare a new folder. VOB files were then created. I dropped these VOB files on Vegas timeline and rendered them again as MPEG2. This new file was accepted by DVDA 2.0. Although this process worked, I think this problem is very weird since I could open the defective MPEG file with applications such as Subtitle Workshop and even could prepare and burn a perfect DVD with DVDA. As I've said, the problem was with previewing and setting subtitles for the file which itself is a process related to previewing the file with DVDA2.0 timeline.
Now I face another problem. I'd like that DVDA2.0 could create an only one VOB file and not 2 of them in the folder. This way would be much easier to drop the "only one file" on Vegas timeline and render it again as MPEG2, instead of having 2 VOB files and having to deal with sync problems, editing, etc. Does anybody have any idea how can I set DVDA to prepare a folder with this only one VOB file, or any other way to do that (MPEG2 to VOB)?
    Thanks in advance.

Since no one should ever tried to respond, I had to find out an answer myself. So here I am to share it with you all, once more. I GUESS THE PROBLEM WITH MY DEFECTIVE MPEG FILE "COULD" BE THIS ONE: I was reading a guide around here on how to create high quality MPEG2 files with TMPGENC (Sony was right, as they responded in their forum saying the problem was with my "ill formed" MPEG file).
This guide says that some applcs don't like MPEG files with minimum bitrate set as 0 (zero). I checked my TMPGENC Encoder config out and I found that 0 (zero) there. At this time, this wouldn't help that much because I don't have anymore all the original files that made up my project. Anyway, I set that minimum bitrate as 200. This should AVOID future problems with TMPGENC for encoding MPEG files.
I found also a terrific guide around here on how to go from VOB to MPEG (which definitely worked much better and faster than the stupidity I was trying to do - getting Vegas to render the VOB again.
It works much better this way. Open DVDA and choose prepare (make a simple project with just the defective file). At the end You'll get a couple of VOB files. But they are split, this we've already known before. You'll have to get TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR to restore the VOB to a new MPEG file. No loss of quality at all. So please, if you are having same kind of problem with MPEG files and your authoring applc, get your couple of VOB files and this:

    1. go to:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc...ght=mpeg%20vob

    2. You'll need TMPGENC DVD author. Just follow the guide above for TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR. Happy, happy, joy, joy

Wanna know the end of my story? DVDArchitect 2.0 accepted the new file and I finally finished those subtitles.
Personal opinion: much easier to make subtitles with DVDA2.0 than any, ANY other apllic.
