Hey everyone,
I was looking around the tools list on this site but I couldn't find what I was looking for. Does anyone know what software (if any) is out there that I could use to "test" a burned DVD? I'm backing up a lot of my home movies and I don't have time to watch every single one to make sure they will read successfully. I was hoping there was a tool out there that could scan the disc and let me know if there are any problems with it (whether they be caused by a bad burn, a scratch, etc.). This way I won't ditch the VHS and find out in two years when I watch it that it's all messed up. Thanks for your help!

P.S. - I've been using 4X Ritek G04 discs on my Pioneer DVR-107D and they've worked perfectly so far... I've only found one report on how the G05 discs work with my drive and it was negative. I was hoping to switch to the G05s so I could burn at 8x but I don't know if I should now in case they aren't as reliable. Anyone know first hand?

If you're using Nero to burn, just put a tick in the "verify written data" box.

Another thing you can do to check a dvd is using NeroSpeed. If you get a straight line without spikes, the DVD is probably ok. It is no "proof" but a fast method which is quite reliable for already burned DVDs.
This method is also often mentioned for burn quality checks like here:

DVDInfo, CD-DVD Speed, you can use both the speed testing, as well as the surface scan on a disc to check for bad sectors.
Watching is also a good way for movies..(obviously not a data disc.) However this isnt foolproof, either, as some DVD players manage errors better than others, and can compensate.
Another good way is to see if you can re-back up the DVD...like with DVD Decrypter. This is one of the BEST ways, as if the disc does have sketchy spots in some places, at least you know one of your computer drives is able to read the data 100%, and worst case scenario - you can just re-rip the disc, and burn later if errors or bad playback occurs on stand alones.
