  1. Is it possible to create a gif file from an .avi file? I have animation shop 3 for creating gif files, and it says that it associates with .avi files. However, when I try an open an .avi file I get an error message that says no suitable decompressor available. Mabey this is just wishfull thinking but I was trying to take an .avi from dr. divx and make a really small gif so I can have a cool avatar. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Why not save a few frames from the avi or decompile it so you can select the pictures you want to make a gif from? I think VirtualDub can do the frame saving. Blaze Media Pro decompiles.

  7. I got it down to 11 frames before but anything less than that just doesn't give the effect of an explosion being real. With 11 frames it's still like 39k, I thought oh I could compress my video file with doctor divx, and then make a gif animation. While it was a nice thought, it didn't work.

I don't think there's much point to compressing video before importing into Animation Shop. You should use Animation Shop to do all the resizing and compressing. If you resize, get the color depth way down, and remove some more frames, possibly you can still get it below 6k.
