Please can someone help me, I’m totally confused.
I have converted at least 30 SVCD (bin/cue) to DVD and up till now all have played perfectly in my XMS 750 Standalone DVD. Suddenly everything that I convert & try to play gives me a report of “No Disc”, even the earlier converted DVDs that did play now report “No Disc”. DVDs that I rip with Shrink V3.1 and burn with the same Pioneer 106D burner on the same media play perfectly. The XMS 750 plays everything EXCEPT files converted with SVCD2DVD. They all (including the No Discs ) play in other standalone DVD players. I have changed media with no difference so I can only assume something has changed in SVCD2DVD or perhaps I need to change a setting in SVCD2DVD but don’t know where to start. Any suggestions would be appreciated …..

  2. Did you check if you player supports svcd-dvd? cause the proces of burning svcd on dvd produces a dvd that isn't true to the dvd format. But most players play it anyway but some don't. Maybe yours doesn't play them anymore. Did you do a firmware update?

As far as the result of SVCD2DVD is different couldn't be the cause of the problem. You wrote that all you old SVCD2DVD don't play anymore to and did play before.

What could you do to solve you problem:
    - You could do is try them on a other player. Maybe the disc got corrupted or maybe it is just the firmware. If they play fine else where it is you player
    - You could try is make svcd-dvds with tmgpenc author or dvd-lab and see what they do on you player. Like i wrote earlier svcd-dvds aren't following the dvd format to the letter so maybe you player is better suited for an other proces of burning svcd-dvd.

Thanks for the quick reply - All previously SVCD2DVD encoded files played perfectly so I would assume the player is capable. Suddenly no newly encoded file is recognised which is why I suspected some setting may have changed & I'm not clever enough to see it .

  4. Ok sorry i read your question wrong.

What you could do is try making your dvds with tmpgenc author or dvd-lab and see if those play.

even the earlier converted DVDs that did play now report “No Disc”.
Are you saying that DVDs that did play before on your player no longer play?

Thanks for your interest Chrissy. Yes exactly but only conversions done in the last 2 weeks or so. I've just discovered that if I burn the same file onto a DVD -RW it plays perfectly in mine. Weird. The 5 DVD -r that won't play in my XMS 750 have tonight been tried in friends Stand alone XMS 750s with the same result, No disc.

Seems like a problem with your -R dvd's. DO you have a +R which you can test also?

No I've only ever used -R but I'll go out & buy a few +R tomorrow as a test.
Will keep you posted with the result. Thanks

I did try +R media with no change to the result. Have since found that of the three DVD players I have, they all play in only one ( OMNI 1000 portable). The other 2 players simply won't recognise the disc has been inserted. Several of my friends have exactly the same results where some DVD players just won't recognise that there is a disc inserted. I have to admit I stopped trying to work it out & now just play them in the Omni.

So just to comfirm: -RW media works in your three players but -R only works in the one?
