Is the RITEK DVD-R 4x white inkjet printables any good? Take a look at this link for them: http://www.cosmo-media.com/rt-gp-r4x-pw100.html
Shipping would cost way too much for me and COSMO store is the only one that sells printable dvd media where I live. Compusa only sells MEMOREX printable which I don't want because it could be manufactured by CMC.

I'm thinking of getting the EPSON R200 printer but I'm holding back because the shipping price of printable dvd media from a online store will be too expensive. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks in advance.

    Hey there,

I've used both the Ritek G04 printable as well as the Prodisc S03 printable media. Any problems that I have had were not the cause of the media, but other factors (cat knocked a few backups off the desk causing a deep scratch in one rendering it unplayable.)

As for the print out, I think that the Riteks seem to give a better overall apperance, but the prodisc's seem to hold the ink better (Again at least to me) Also, since the prodisc is almost hub printable, you can extend the art work further into the center. The Ritek's cannot. So far I have been able to play anything that I have burned with either media in every player that I've tried them in, with no problems. I'm using the Epson R300 to print my disks and so far love it. If I had to do it again, I'd buy the R200, but that critter sisn't exist when I bought mine.

Don't know where you live for the shipping prices, but every now and then, you can catch supermediastore offering free ground shipping on certain items. I have bought both types of disks from them in the past and have had good experiences with their company.

That link I provided that has the RITEK PRINTABLE is in Hawaii. Shipping costs for us suck because we live in paradise! It sucks because we have no option but to ship 2nd day air from either UPS or FEDX. We aren't allowed GROUND SHIPPING which is stupid. Yes, I know it has to be sent via airplane but we are allowed to ship items to the 48 states via ground shipping. I shipped a dvd player back to Southern California with FEDX and was asked you want it sent GROUND SHIPPING. Told the dude, "hey! I didn't know we could ground ship to the mainland"! Go figure out why these online stores charge so much for shipping just cuz we live in Hawaii. I'm thinking it has to do with having corporate accounts with UPS & FEDX. People living in ALASKA have the same problem with expensive shipping costs.

Ouch, that sux! You should return back to Meritline then!

I had ordered about 200 Printable Ritek GRADE A DVD-R. Not a single coaster. Personally I think it has alot to do with computer and dvd burner it self.

I'm using Plextor 708-UF, what kind of DVD writer you have?

Thems the same as i used......Never a bad burn.. But after 6 months i could NOT copy one of the disks.... no matter how i tried...
So while they burn OK the dye has very poor retention of data or however you wish to put it. Now the Riteks are fine after the same and longer storage times.

I haven't get a chance to test the retention yet, because I don't have a DVD that has been that long.

However, which brand do you recommend for long retention DVD? This is the one I am definately looking for!

  9. I use Ritek printables, never had a bad one yet that I know of. I bought mine from Rima.com.

I did have a wierd error the other day, I stuck a disk in the player and let the motion menu run a minute or two before I hit the play button and the movie was freezing up bad. Played a second or two then freeze a second or two, over and over. Really bad and did not clear up on it's own. I opened the tray and closed it again and started the movie from the begining and it played perfect all the way through. I have no Idea what caused that freezing the first time, the player or the disk, but just open and close the tray fixed it.
No problems with any of the others

  10. The Ridata white matte printables that I have used (from Newegg) have balancing issues. The first 3.5gb are usually pretty good. I couldn't achieve any consistency...on any of my 3 separate systems. My Pioneer and NEC, both of which burn everything, had trouble with that media. Plextor burner worked the best.

I personally don't like the transluscent look when printing to that media. Prints seem washed out, but other people like it...personal preference.

I've tested quite a lot of white printable dvd media, and the best I have found is Maxell (MXLRG02). Never a coaster (100+), full 4.38gb capacity, good drying time, vivid color....if only they had hub printable.

This is my experience..yours may differ.

  11. I haven't had any recording problems with mine yet and I hadn't noticed any washed out look to them. They looked pretty good to me, nearly photo quality.

I just noticed 3 places showing to be out of stock tonight!
Maybe I will try those Maxells you mentioned, though I was thinking of hub printables myself also. I hate to leave a hole like that in the middle of my image. And I always seem to have something that is hard to work around that area, would be nice to print the entire disk.

  13. Several factors for people giving poor rating to good media.

    1) the burner
    2) PC hardware and software complication/errors/firmware/version
    3) user error
