I know there should be a simple answer to the questions below:

I need an WMV to MOV video file converter. Surprisingly, the only thing I can find that works well is Adobe Premier. But, the trial will run out in 20 days, and it is too expensive to purchase just for that feature.

Can someone suggest a lower cost and straightforward solution to converting WMV to MOV; i.e., WMV to Quicktime video file conversion? All the searches on Google, etc. do not produce any usable results other than Adobe Premier.

    Thanks,
    Alan

My reason for this is that I need to make a video streaming file that will work for almost anyone with a PC or a MAC, especially naive users. The lowest common denominator is Quicktime Streaming. Almost all PC's and MAC's come equipped standard with this. Thanks!

I would suggest trying EO Video. It's only $49.99 (a lot less than Premiere) and is very, very easy to use and does the job very well. There are many good reviews on it and it has many features for a lot of types of conversions. it can convert between: avi, mpeg, MOV, real media, WMV, asf, jpeg, gif, mp3, and a lot of others. The quality is very good as well www.eo-video.com

And no, I do not sell this product myself if this sounds a lot like an advertisment

  3. Won't work on DRM files but,

If you have QuickTime Pro for the PC there's an easy way.

    1. Install TMPGEnc freeware, & VFAPI converter (remember to install VFAPI codec).
    2. Open WMV in TMPGEnc and "Save Project"
    3. Use VFAPI convert to make pseudo-AVI out of TMPGEnc project file.
    4. Use QuickTime Pro to convert the VFAPI-AVI into MOV.

I don't know of any freeware "MOV" encoders.
