  1. I have a Magnavox DVD player and when I play dvd's they fade in and out.

I tried the dvd player on another tv and worked fine. These are the original dvd's.

Also this is a combo tv/vcr

    thanks!

What you are experiencing is a macrovision problem for sure,if you are routing the signal through a vcr instead of directly to your tv set then this is what will happen.

No way to fix it it, short of buying an RF modulator, then you would be losing video quality as well as the stereo sound. This is an inherent problem of TV/VCR combos. What happens is the AV inputs are passed through the VCR circuitry before reaching the TV, and the Macrovsion kicks in.

Others, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, or to elaborate on this.

Send the player back to Magnavox and demand a refund. If it does this when you try to play DVDs normally, it is not fit for its purpose and basically shouldn't even be sold.

This device has a lot of limitations according to site info:

Note: Will not work with level 2 color stripe copy protection.
Will NOT work with Toshiba DVD Players!
Will NOT work when going to a Camcorder. Will not work with DVD Recorders

I personally use dvd red pro

  8. True, but with this particular set-up he should be fine. For more complicated set-ups, I usually recommend the unit from FacetVideo.com. The DVD Red PRO looks interesting, though.
