  1. Is there any video package which can quickly find and edit out commercials?

  2. I think that the nearest you will get is an application that will detect scene changes rather than advertisments themselves.

I don't know personally know of any, but it may be worth looking up some applicatioins based on that criterea.

    Good luck!

I have run across a couple. One insists on creating an avi file that is HUGE, so I dropped it.

The other is mpeg-vcr. Does this beautifully! Or so it seems.

I have a couple of problems with mpeg-vcr. Since the problems vary according to which PC I use, I have to say that you may not run into any problems at all.

On my video PC, when I cut out part of a show, mpeg-vcr also truncates the show. If I cut off enough in the middle, I end up with a very, very short show.

This PC has: ASUS CUSL2-C motherboard, Pentium III 1Ghz CPU, 512Mb RAM, 20 Gb Quantum IDE drive to boot, 40Gb and 60Gb hard disks on a Promise EIDE controller for capture and storage, Creative Labs sound card (recent), ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV video card, ATI TV Wonder PCI capture card.

On my DJ PC, cutting out commericals does not truncate the show. However, the one show that I did ended up with an audio sync issue. I have not had a chance to go back and test further.

This PC has: ASUS P4P8X motherboard, P4 Celeron 1.4Ghz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 60Gb boot drive, 120Gb WD IDE drive, 160Gb Seagate SATA drive, Maxtor 120Gb IDE drive, ASUS 52x24x52 CD-RW, NEC ND2500A DVD-RW, Matrox P750 video.

    You can find mpeg-vcr at:

There are references to mpeg-vcr on this web site.

    Hope this helps!
