  1. I have a dvd of which I've decrypted the four .VOB files onto my hard drive. I encoded the first one into MPEG with TMPG enc. and no problems. When I do the second, third or fourth one the audio sounded like Satan speaking; like from The Excorcist or [insert your favorite demonic possesion movie here]

I used the same settings for encoding all the .VOB's into mpeg, I have verifed that the decrypted .VOB plays fine in my software DVD player. I have re-ripped all the .VOB's, I have tried using the TooLame external audio encoder with TMPG enc., I have tried decrypting the .VOB files with different rippers (Clad DVD 2.0 and DVD decrypter 3.0.0.8 ) but the same thing happens.

With the same settings, why would this happen with .VOB #2 through 4 and not .VOB #1?

  2. use DVD2AVI to create a project file because you can select the whole thing, all of the vobs

then use TMPEnc and open the project file and encode

TPMGenc's sampling frequency converter has been known to do strange things to audio. To get around this do the 48kHz to 44kHz conversion in either dvd2avi or get an external converter and use it in TMPGenc. I prefer to use ssrc.exe.

As mentioned you should run your vobs through a frameserver before going to TMPGenc. Dvd2avi is probably the best choice.

  4. Thanks for the replies. I did the conversion with DVD2AVI then pointed TMPGenc. to the resulting .mpa file as my audio source and now Satan has departed.

adam, I did a search for ssrc.exe but could not find it. could you direct me to where I could DL it?

I am still confused about why tooLame didn't solve the problem when used as the external audio encoder. Though mpeg encoding is new to me so maybe its something I haven't figured out yet.

You can find ssrc here. To use it in TMPGenc set the exe as the external frequency converter, its in the same area where you set toolame as the external tool but only in recent versions of TMPGenc.

Assuming that the Satanic sound was caused by the 48kHz-44100kHZ, toolame can't fix this because all it does is convert from wav to mpa. It doesnt change the frequency, TMPGenc does, and unfortunately it does a poor job.
