Well I was finally able to download the BAnd of Brothers HBO series, but unfortunately am having difficulties converting from avi to mpg for VCD. I am using TMPGEnc version 2.01. I have succesfully created many VCD's that I was ablr to view on my DVD player but Band of Brothers is being stubborn. Here are the films specs:
    (SmR)Band Of Brothers WS E01
    Audio: MPEG layer-3, 96kBit/s
    48,000Hz Stereo
    Video: 352x192, 84296 Frames
    20.000 Fps 65KB/sec
    unknown format
Any help with converting this for VCD would be greatly appreciated

    Thank You

  2. why dont you give us an idea of what the problem is. all you state is that you are having "touble". that could mean many things. i would think about uncompressing the audio to pcm format using virtualdub. but your problem could also have something to do with the framerate.

Ok sorry...I agree that "I am having difficulties: is a bit broad. The problem is that when I go to load Band of Brothers into TMPGEnc, I just get an error that reads "can not open, or unsupported"

    Thanks mates

  4. the avi is probably in divx format. tmpgenc might have trouble reading the divx file. i have an earlier version of tmpgenc, that pretty much reads every divx file i have tried so far. however, i have read (i think) on the forum of people having trouble with some divx. really dont know what else to tell. you might want to convert the divx to another type of avi using virtualdub, but this would reduce quality. you could convert it to an uncompressed avi, but that would yield a very, very large file; 3 or 4 gigs for only 20 minutes. you may also think about changing the framerate.

  5. Band of Brothers is widely avaiable in the usual places in mpg/VCD ready to burn....so i guess I'm wondering why go to all this trouble.....with an avi file....

  7. That video-unknown format is your prob, look for the right codec. If media player can't auto-download it chances are it's divX as already said.

Thanks a bunch for all the help....Appreciate it. I am new to burning VCD's etc but am learning quickly. You guys were right... I did get TMPGEnc to load it finally but when it gets to 99% completion, and writing the EXE file it errors out again. But anyways I junked the avi and am now downloading the MPG. Thanks again.
PS. If anyone interested in file swapping email me...I got a bunch.

The majority of the time if TMPGenc gives errors with divx files its because of the audio. Run the divx through virtualdub and save the wav first, then use that as your audio source in TMPGenc.
