  1. Was in Best Buy earlier to get on that TDK sale and I was hoping to find some 4x -R disks as opposed to the +R's although both are great. I know the -R's were only 2x the last few times they had this sale and even on Best Buy's site they show 2x, while the +R's show 4x. To my surprise though I saw that the TDK -R's were 4x and had to unique 50 pack spindles shrink rapped together. The first spindle was orange and had the TDK logo and 4x DVD-R marked on it, while the bottom spindle was black and just said TDK DVD-R.

As soon as I opened the spindles and saw the dye of the disks I swore they were Taiyo Yudens. I was pretty shocked and Taiyo Yuden has a super deep colored dye so to see if I was right I ran DVD Identifier on them and sure enough, TTG01. Regardless of who actually manufactures these the disks, they look like they are made with TY's processes, and so far appear to be top notch. For .99 each you can't beat it IMHO.

  2. Are you confusing TYG01 with TTG01? How do you know they use the same process as Taiyo Yuden? This is the only information I could find on this media. It says it's made by CMC. They OEM for TDK.
    Blah, blah, blah

Even the media section to the left says cmc or tdk which is most likely cmc.

  4. yep, may be a mistake on my part. I checked the media section but these disks don't look like any of the CMC disks i've ever seen. As soon as I looked at the dye I said, wow, these must be Taiyo Yudens. The dye and write side of the disk looks identical to the Taiyos. I still have some from the cake box of the Office Max deal a month ago and the dye looks identical. I've been having great results with these so far, perfect burns and perfect nero cd speed results. If these aren't Taiyo Yudens they sure look and perform like em'.

  6. TTG01 discs are either made by TDK or CMC. If the label on the packaging reads "Made in Japan", then these discs are made in-house by TDK in Japan. If the label read "Made in Taiwan", your discs are made by CMC using TDK dye and stampers. And yes, TTG01 and TYG01 dye looks similar, although the discs do have differences.

  7. @ terminal, do you suggest I keep these TTG01 disks Sounds like you are aware of the two different brands. I've had great burns with them thus far and they aren't scratched up and don't have sloppy dye like many other CMC disks I've seen, that's why I jumped the gun and though, wow, Taiyo Yudens. They seem to perform as well to, but what do you suggest? I can easily return them minus the ones i've used to swap for the +R 4X TDK's which apparently are Ricoh?

TDK +R media might be CMC as mentioned on numerous threads here, just like the Memorex +R media. They all used to be Ricoh . My last spindle of Memorex from Amazon.com was CMC. have to say though burns have been good as well as their playback. But I'll probably not buy any more Memorex or TDK, esp. when I can get Prodisc S03s for $0.52 each after tax and shipping (and w/o any F___king rebates ). these are -R media, not the + ones.

TTG01 are worth using, though watch them carefully and test. Do not make blaind faith commitment yet. These are still new media.

  10. @ noki, damn, that really does suck. That is the exact same thing that happened to me with Verbatim. It's amazing the difference in the look of the dye from the CMC Verbatims to the MCC verbatims to the Ricoh Verbatims. CMC doesn't even belong in the same category. The dye has light type sratching on the write side and i've never seen that with any other type of disk except CMC. I should of gotten more of the Maxells on that great Office Depot Maxell deal.

lordsmurf, I did jump the gun somewhat but only after I saw how clean and nice the dye was. Looked just like my Taiyo Yudens and the burns have been perfect. Nerocdspeed shows perfect results and these disks don't have that same type "scratching" appearance on the dye side as the other CMC disks I've seen. Hopefully these stay consistent. I'll keep this post updated with my results though.
