I have posted the problem I am having with getting audio to play on a computer in this thread -> https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=223943 in the Software area. and not getting any responses. Thought I'd try here.
I'm thinking it may be a CODEC problem.
Hoping for some suggestions.

OK. I'll give that a try. I don't know if you actually read the post I linked to or not, but the error I quote there makes me wonder if that's not the case. But, I'll experiment with finding K-Lite and see what happens.
Thanks

OK.I have downloaded K-lite, and installed some of the Codecs. The DL page says to only install what is needed or you may be asking for trouble.
I have tried several combinations of Codecs, including:
Windows Media 7/8i/9
Media Player Classic 6.4.8.2
Cyberlink DVD
MS-Mpeg 4
Main Concept/Mainconcept (That is the encoder in Adobe Premier)
MP3
I should point out that Mpeg-2(Demux/Decodeer) is Greyed out, so I couldnd't select that to install.
The best I have now is that my MPG will play in Media Player classic and sound, uh, OK. It plays in Media PLayer 9, but sounds absolutely terrible. And, I get NO sound playing VOBs(even ones put on HD w/DVD Shrink), or DVDs from the DVD drive.
Can anyone suggest which Codec I need to play DVDs/VOBs created with Adobe Premier (Mainconcept MPEG encoder) and play them in WMP9?Thanks

I should have posted my original post here so it would be read, instead of a link to it.
In the end I AM using a tool that plays DVDs. Although it is a hardware card called MyHD. It plays DVDs very well; upscales them to near HD quality, etc. It plays commercial DVDs fine. It plays these fine...except for sound.
So, I tried playing them in WMP just to test, and they don't play there either. So, I'm thinking that if I can get them to work right in WMP, they will probably play right through MyHD.
This problem exists whether I play them from teh DVD, or by double-clicking on the VOB, or playing the MPG file before converting to DVD format. Thanks

Still, to play a DVD image or DVD from folder or mpeg2 video, PowerDVD or WinDVD are the tools to use. Note that software players are more "relaxed" about the DVD standard than your average hardware player.
So, in fact your problem is not to play stuff on your computer, but how to encode and author to DVD?

There's plenty of controversy on that topic, and I'm really past that discussion.
Lots of discussion of Software VS. Hardware players over on AVSForum. I've experimented with software scalers/delinterlacers, and Software players comparing quality on the picture on my High Definition projector. Hardware MyHD wins hands down, with commercial DVDs. If I can just get it to work at all on this PC, I'll be happy.
Works fine on every other PC I've played it on, w/o installing a CODEC. I don't know why it won't work on the Home Theater PC. Maybe if I install my PowerDVD app it will start working no matter how I want to play it. I can't seem to get a recommendation on a CODEC.Thanks
