You are supposed to use a US template. Until you become an advanced user. 23 or 29, please.

It depends if your burning it on to a dvd or (s)vcd. if it s just for use on the computer, then it doesn't matter what the FPS is. if your burnning it onto a disc to be played in your standalone dvd player, then you need to know if your dvd player can output multiple formats. My dvd player can convert 25fps to one that NTSC compliant, so i never bother to change the fps. if your dvd player can't, then you need to convert it first.

So try one at 25 fps and see, it's much easier than doing a framerate conversion.

If the file is progressive then it will be fairly easy to change to NTSC format especially if you use TMPGEnc.

You don't say what type of file it is but my guess is that it is a MPEG-4 AVI file in which case it would be progressive.

If the file is VCD then it would again be progressive.

So assuming you have a progressive 25fps PAL source just use the NTSC DVD template in TMPGEnc

Make sure for type you enter FILM not VIDEO

On the advanced tab make sure you select "DO NOT FRAME RATE CONVERSION"

You will end up with a proper 23.976fps progressive DVD MPEG-2 file(s).

I forgot to mention that if you do the method I suggest to create a PAL to NTSC conversion you also need to adjust the audio.

This can be done with BeSweet or Goldwave.

There are a few guides on this website for doing PAL to NTSC conversions.

Look them up and give them a read.

Well did you try what I told you before?

Like I said all you really need to do with TMPGEnc is pick a NTSC DVD template and change the advance setting tab so that the option entitled "DO NOT FRAME RATE CONVERSION" is check marked (it is NOT checked marked by default).

If you use the template and do that then chances of screwing up are very slim ... just make sure you select video type as FILM and it will even set 3:2 pulldown for you.

Again this will only really work correctly if the PAL source is PROGRESSIVE video.

Chances are it is but I haven't a clue since you can't seem to offer any help for yourself at all.

Like, for instance, never answering any of my questions about the format of your source file.

You only get as much help as effert you put in.

So far I'm seeing not a whole lot of effert on your part.

just change it...reduces hassle...works regardless of dvd player = more compatiblity between machines...easier to call a day

also, i'd go with NTSC 23.976...since your converting PAL to NTSC...upping to 29.97 might make it choppy, while 23.976 is only dropping about 1 frame here or there.

use TMPGEnc Plus or plain ol' freeware TMPGEnc

The method I out-lined effectively changes the frame rate from 25fps to 23.976fps without dropping and/or adding frames.

So that is why you need BeSweet or GoldWave etc. to adjust the audio because you are actually slowing the video down from 25fps to 23.976fps so the audio in turn must also be slowed down to match the new slower video.
