  1. Hi,

Most of the time my Powerbook spits my DVDR's (movie backups) that I've burned back out. Every now and then it will play but not usually. Has no trouble with factory DVD's.

The DVD's play on 2 different dvd players and also play fine on a G4 tower. just not the Powerbook

    Powerbook G4 800,

The DVDs are burned using Toast. The problem occurs with all the media I've used, Ritek G4, ProDisc and Vanguard

    Anyone else have any problems?

    Thanks

    Maybe try Apple DVD-R media...

on apple.com discussion there are many people who have this problem.

    This one for example

if you have apple care i suggest calling apple and seeing what they think.

Is it only DVD's or is it cd's also?

  4. Why don't you try cleaning the drive with a CD/DVD laser cleaning disc?
It worked on my iMacG4 when it was having the same trouble.
    Hope this helps bro.

I second this, or, one of the other "made in Japan" options. Maxell, Fuji or Panasonic. Just make sure it says "made in Japan". Also, cleaning is another good idea, as suggested.

Yeah im having the same problems too (almost the same no spit back) I was actually going to post a new thread about it myself..
Any way I also get any number of system errors -36 and i belive -701 being the most common

The odd thing is, it will play most of the dvd (50-60%) if not more than all the sudden it will get really jerky, a/v snyc issues and all that
i tryed to repair the disk permissions but that didnt seem to help..
Although ive only been using this powerbook since xmas when I bought it
i must say im strongly thing about never buying an apple product again because I have never had problems like this with any of my windows laptops/desktops

Well, do have the problem with any other player, whether it be Mac or PC or standalone?

Getting through 50-60% of a disc ok often signifies a problem with either media or burning process, not your players.

nope- never a porblem with the disks i use
ive been using the same media for about 8 months now (verbatim 2x dvd-r) every player ive used these disks in work perfectly fine (ps2's, sony standalones, panasonic standalones, deawoo standalones) every thing ive tried them in the disks play all the way through except on the mac..
odd dont undertand why it would play and then stop
first i thought it was a low battery issue, but i pluged the powerbook in and it does the same thing also powered down the laptop and every thing

Call Apple and have em fix or replace your drive if it's still under warranty. Tell them your iDVD projects and data DVD-R backups don't read on it. They're usually really good about warranty repairs.

  10. I have experienced the same problem.

But only when my colleague burns a dvd-r (movie backup) on his window machine...then it spits it out after 30 sec or so...

but haven't had any problems with burning on mac...
