Have done a quick search and didn't see anything that was relevant.

I have just ripped and burnt a DVD using DVD Backup, DVD2OneX and Toast 6. All went fine except there is a portion of the original DVD that had subtitles (as another language was spoken ) that has not come through for the burnt copy.

I did not select subtitles in DVD2OneX - should I have? It is only a small part of the movie but just for future reference, it would be good to know how to allow this to happen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In DVD2OneX, you have to select subtitles only in film mode. Disc copy mode will copy them automatically for you.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

If you want subtitles, you must select them. Still, it has been my experience that that sort of thing tends to be burnt into the video. Weird. When you play the DVD, is it by default showing a subtitle stream? You can check in Apple's DVD Player.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

Did you do Disc Copy? or Movie Only?

thats really odd for it to just "skip" out on only a portion!

    Thanks for your replies.

I did movie only copy, no subtitles and English language with DVD2OneX.

In the movie there were a couple of places where there were subtitles to translate for a second (non-english) language. There were also written 'dates' and country names. Not only did these not come out on the DVDBackup copy, but they obviously didn't come out on the DVD2OneX or burnt DVD either. Very odd.

For the record it was The Last Sumurai.

Just for future reference, if I have a movie that I am going to back up, and that movie has brief segments of translation for a second language, would I have to select 'subtitles' in the DVD2OneX options? I thought that in that situation, the subtitles would be imbedded (for lack of a more technically correct term).

    Again thanks for your help

you have to actively choose the subtitle for it to display. I think what you see is the areas of that movie where the subtitles ARE burned into the video stream! If i remember correctly even in the "english" audio there are translations of certain scenes there for the "region" you bought that disk in.

subtitles in dvd's are not "burned in" as they would be with VCD/SVCD because you have the option to turn them on or off if present

if you didnt click the subtitle language you want added to the dvd's choices of subtitles, it wont be present when you scroll though the choices of subtitles

dvd2one should look like this in movie only copy once you choose the main movie title

just click the subtitle you want and then you can choose it by pushing the subtitle button on your remote.
