  1. I got this from "Master and Commander", but I don't know what it is. I've been through the soundtrack and can't find it. I have also tried a music identification service, but it can't get it.

Here's an MP3 taken from the film (208KB):

    http://www.bath.ac.uk/~bs3jf/Unknown.mp3

    Can anyone identify it?

    Thanks very much,

No idea, mate. You might want to try posting the same question on the IMDB board for Master and Commander too.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Violin Concerto No. 3 `Strassburg` K.216, 3rd Movement. Probably a small part of a larger piece. I found the match on a MP3 site, which I won't list here as probably warez.

Typically the piece of music would be open, but the copyright and rights come in because of who played it. I read it in one of Lloyd Kaufman's books. In Tromeo & Juliet they used old songs and didn't have to pay for them, but they had to play the people who played the instruments.

  7. Thanks redwudz, you hit the nail on the head. I only heard the second part of that in a sample I found on a webpage selling the soundtrack, and I thought it was at least a different movement.

Thanks to everyone else for helping out too. I think I might order the soundtrack from play.com.

Now that your query has been sorted, I'm gonna high-jack this puppy. :P

What did everyone think of the film itself? I thought it was quite good. It was a nice change of pace from the fluffier Pirates of the Caribbean. The battle scenes were very well done. As I understand it, the film employed a fair amount of CG effects. They appeared pretty seamless to me. Plus any movie were the French are defeated is alright by me. :P

Nice post, TeeGee, up to a point. A country that gave us the Statue of Liberty and General Lafayette can't be all bad.

You know why I think Americans hate the French? Because they're just as arrogant and self-serving as we are. :P

I can pay 2(or 4) bucks and rent it, or I can wait another week and spend that money on food or a gallon (or two) of ridiculously overpriced gas. I work there and get benifits for working...what's so cheap about that?

In some places its now 85p a litre - if I've done my sums right I think this equates to around $7 a gallon.

The Movie... I liked for most of the reasons you mentioned teegee and I'll add one. Building wooden ships of that period was is an old hobbie.

I'll say this, I've definitely done my share of relenting during a girl's PMS just to get her to shut the hell up. Buying tampons is only one of the damnable things I've done in the name of peace of mind.
