I have just bought a new dual layer DVD burner. I want to make sure everything is installed with the best jumper settings. What is the best settings for my jumpers on my hard drives, DVD burner and DVD player?
My PC specs are
512 Mb RAM
60 GB IDE hard drive
80GB IDE hard drive
DVD player
DVD burner (not yet installed)
Geforce ti4600 graphics card
Soundblaster audigy sound card
Asus 533t motherboard

Put both your two HDDs on the primary channel.
DVD-burner on 2nd channel as master.
DVD-reader as 2nd channel as slave. -
I'd advise against that.
With both HDDS on IDE0, you read from one, pause, write to the other.
ie, you rip to the 80, you process on the 60, you write to the 80, and always take turns.
If you make the OS drive, Master on IDE0, and the reader Slave on IDE1 (the Secondary ), the 80, or processed video store, should go on IDE1 ( the Secondary ) as Master, the Burner on IDE0 as Slave.
Crosstalk, rip from IDE1 to Primary Master, on IDE0, convert, save to Secondary Slave HDD on IDE1, burn from Secondary Slave (80 gig) to Primary Slave, IDE0.
One Channel to the other all the way through. 2 to 1 to 2 to 1.
But, you know what? It really does not mean a damn thing. Anything over about 7 gig as a drive can keep up, no matter what the setup..
Cheers,
George
