Hello
and compliments for the wonderful forum, this is the best source and i learnt everything i know right here.
what i just cant fix is:
i have recently bought (for few bucks) an ATI 128 PRO encoding card...i installed it on my system on the agp slot, i pluged its audio output to the aux input of my creative sound card and i set all the volumes to the minimum.
then i tried to encode several vhs using virtual dub and powervcr II but, while i'm getting a perfect video, i get the audio distorted, because it's too loud. all the settings are to the minimum but my system always get the audio far too loud and it clips, of course.
is this a known bug? is there a way i can fix it? if some more details are needed, i will provide them.
thanks in advance to those who will help me!
cheers!

Make sure you are taking the audio out from the VCR straight to the line in for your sound card and not the line in of your capture card and then out to the line in of your sound card. If the sound goes through too many inputs/outputs it can get badly distorted.
Example:
Right way: VCR audio out > sound card line in
Wrong way: VCR audio out > ATI line in > ATI line out > sound card line in -
thanks for your kind replies,guys...
deception:
i have the following system:
vcr --> scart cable (video and 2 audio connectors pluged) --> ati adaptor to enter with only 1 connector on the aiw card --> ati internal audio out --> audio card internal aux connector
my vcr doesnt have any audio out, so the "scart connection" is the only possible thing -
I believe there is a registry hack to change the audio setting for the ATI cards. By default they seem to be set too high causing many folks to have audio problems.
Try searching these forums -- you should find the hack.
EDIT: try this thread

I don't agree. There can be a slight delay in the video, so bypassing the ATI audio inputs can cause sync loss. And you have no choice but to allow ATI to handle audio when using coax tuner.
