    Hello,

I have 3x CD's i believe to be SVCD format

I want to turn each SVCD disk to a divx or xvid file on my PC.

Once each disk is converted to divx or xvid i want to join them all together and burn to a DVD.

How can this be done ?

    Cheers

Head over to www.doom9.org and check the guides section there. Here's a link to a VCD to DivX guide: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/vcd2divx.htm

Even though you want to convert SVCD and not VCD, the idea is more or less the same. Instead of using VCDgear, use ISOBuster to extract the mpeg from your SVCD.

I have used ISOBuster to copy each disk to the HDD.

So now i just need to join them with VirtualDub and then encode them to a dvix or xvid ?

That sound like it will work ?

    Thanks

You must do some resizing to get correct aspect ratio from the svcd. Easiest would be to resize to 4:3 ratio, like 640x480 or lower and crop if any black bars and then encode to divx/xvid. You can do the resizing and cropping in virtualdub-mpeg2, under video->filters.

No. Encode each file seperately and join afterwards. Use the exact audio and video bitrates for each file. Follow Baldrick's advice about resizing. You should also inverse telecine the video as well. Doing so will de-interlace, as well as restore the original 23.976fps frame rate that most movies are filmed in. All you have to do is go to video>frame rate and select "reconstruct from fields-adaptive".
