  1. I am looking to buy another batch of RW discs and I see the 4x +RW are only a few bucks over the 2X -RW. Assuming middle of the road brands like Optodisc and Prodisc is there anything I am missing by switching? I have tested the new media on everything I will be playing it on and all is fine.

Thanks in advance, also I don't want to start any fueds. I just don't want to be caught by something you guys already know.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  2. +RW is good for speed, but i would stay away from optodisk, got some 2.4x +RW from them, just terrible.

  3. The +R format holds a few Mb less than the -R, but it is only a few so you probably won't notice much difference unless you're heavily into bit management and go within a gnat's fart of the edge.

+R is better suited for data applications and has a more robust error correction than -R when used for data, if you're using them for video then that doesn't make a lot of difference either.

Stating the obvious, you do have a dual format burner, don't you ?

My burner does DVD-RW at 2x and DVD+RW at 2.4x but I am using DVD-RWs right now anyway. My reason? I had less than perfect quality with a +RW from Ritek so I bought a few -RWs. I have less than a dozen anyway and they are used exclusively for archiving and one for testing so I don't care about time so much. If it was 4x on the other hand, I would switch.

Thanks for all the feed back and the experience. Yup, I do have a dual format burner but thanks for the heads up. I will probably give the 4X RWs a try. Hard to beat the speed increase for just a few bucks.

    Canada Wal-Mart Memorex 4X DVD+RW (Richjpnw11 same as Maxell's 4x DVD+RW) selling 3 packs in jewel cases for 8.99 (10.99 for 3 Maxell 4x, 14.99 for Maxell 2x DVD-RW). Prices were in Cad$.

I bought 12 Memorex 4x DVD+RW. 2 failed write on my DVD Recorder. Theses two failed DVD+RW disks were reformatted twice in my LG4082B Writer and then rewrite OK in my DVD Recorder.

I have a spindle of 25 Dynax 2.4x DVD+RW (Infodisc) from Bestbuy burnt 10 and all of them wrote OK the 1st time on my DVD Recorder. Had not yet tried to re-write them. Price is 39.99 for 25 disks spindle.

In general, these +RWs are some 30% cheaper than -RWs and faster speeds for +RWs.
