How do you do a Still & Video slide show with continuous background music using Scenarist?
With Spruce Maestro you just make a slide show, but instead of just using
stills, you can use both videos and stills on the same video track. But I
can't seem to be able to do the same thing with Scenarist.
If I use an editor software program and join the stills & video into one long video stream it uses up too much DVD space because long stills are now long videos.
If I create separate cells for each video and each still, the continuous audio track becomes glitchy.

It looks like there is no way around it - you have to encode your stills as a part of video. This is not because of the Scenarist capabilities but due to DVD standard limitations. You cannot have a seamless transition between a slideshow and a video either, hence the "glitches." If done properly, stills encoded into video shouldn't take much space since it's the best material for MPEG compression.
However, why don't you analyze with IfoEdit/VobEdit such a DVD made with Maestro to see how they implemented it.
