Just a guess, but you probably need to reconfigure the router with the new connection settings for the dsl. You didn't specify what router you are using, but usually you just browse to http://192.168.0.1 to access the router settings. Your dsl provider should have given you the appropriate information to enter.

Sorry gitreel - typing too slow - plus I was trying to verify the IP for the router setup.

  4. Hi,
You need to register your router. What I mean by this is that you registered your NIC card with Telus when they set it up. Now that you are going through a router, you need to registered the routers NIC card. Just open up Internet Explorer and type http://oca.bc.hsia.telus.net Then login with your username and password. After that click one step registration and that should be it. You will need to reboot your pc, but after that, all should work.

As the original poster is in Canada, I may be off base here, since I am used to U.S., but I have never had to register a router. The MAC address of the modem needs to be registered with the dsl provider, but the router is transparent to the provider. It obtains the IP from the provider when it establishes the connection with the modem. Beyond that, it is a simple DHCP server.

Noone should ever need to register a router. But, like my sig says........

probably be easier just to reset the router back to oem and configure from there. just a thought

  7. Just a thought...

Many routers have a setting to "assume" the MAC Address of the PC's NIC in order to work with the ISP's DHCP server. If the ISP has your PC MAC address listed to receive an IP address from their lease pool, then it may not be assigning an IP adress to your router if it presents a different MAC address.

Investigate the router to see if it can assume your PC's MAC address (or you can force a MAC address). This is assuming that you have a combo Firewall/Router and are using NAT.

IPCONFIG /ALL will show you the MAC address of your PC NIC with NT/2000/XP.

  8. I live in Canada and have done many of these installations. Telus requires you register the MAC address of the NIC in order to use the network. Since you are now using the router between you and the modem, you must register the routers MAC address. Hope this helps.

  11. Why don't you just change the router MAC address (the one it sends to ISP) to that on your NIC?

i had the exact router, if you need help to find that option, tell me.

  12. You should already have the WAN port plugged into your wan port on your router then your pc plugged into your router. You should still be able to get to the website. If it is already in use, it might be that you are only allowed one pc at a time. In that case, just remove the mac address and then click one step registration.

You need to enter the ip# of the router to configure it. I said this earlier in this thread.

  17. The only website you should be able to access is the one to register your mac address. The http://oca.bc.hsia.telus.net one. Again, you should be able to type in your username and password, delete the old mac entry and do the one step registration. Then reboot your machine and all should be fine. Remember to reboot the rest of the pc's on your network.

  18. NIC = network interface card
router mac = go to http://192.168.2.1/ (on the pc registered with isp to be easier)
put in default p/w (from manual)
    go to advanced setup
    go to wan
click on dynamic ip (if thats what your modem is)
click clone if your on the computer you want to register/or have registerd with isp, then apply

    thats it
