I'm converting a DVD from PAL to NTSC. I rip with DVD2AVI to get a .d2v file and an .ac3 file. The video part I have no problem with (TMPG converted into 23.967 3:2 pulldown with the "no framerate conversion" flag checked in advanced to get smooth video).

However, as you may know, you also have to convert the 'framerate' of the audio from 25000 to 23967 as well as set the delay. The delay amount is automatically written into the filename by DVD2AVI. So I load up the .ac3 file in Ac3machine (aka Besweet) and enter both the framerate change and the delay.

Ac3machine spits out a new AC3 file. Here's the problem: The delay is totally off. Worse, the amount that it's off by varies from movie to movie.

For one movie, I had to multiply the DVD2AVI delays by 1.8 (so 80% larger) for it to sync to the new NTSC video. For another movie, 20% smaller. Sometimes I don't have to at all. It seems to have no rhyme or reason. So essentially I have to go by trial and error with different delay values until I find one that syncs. This can't be the right way to do it.

Is this normal? Is the delay supposed to made invalid after you've converted from pal to ntsc? The delay is definitely off by a fixed amount each time. Once you sync it, it is in sync for the entire movie. So the audio's "framerate" is correct.
