I have/own a dvd of my kid's dance competition. Problem is that sound is awful and I want to edit the sound. I'm a newbie at this... I have a DAC-100. I was able to play/capture the dvd into an avi file, then use my Roxio edit tools to overlay new sound track. My vcd sounds great, but the video looks worse than my 8mm tape source (from the DAC). So I found your board, read a little and download AutoGK. Seems straightforward. But two things: the sound (ac3?) file is in different directory than the avi file; and my Roxio and Ulead editors seem to think file has some error (even though it will play w/o sound in MediaPlayer, RealPlayer and even Ulead - but Roxio won't play at all: "Error rendering panel 0" is Roxio message. I wish I understood what is wrong - did I goof in AutoGK? Should I use some other (free) tool to edit the file that was created in AutoGk? I wanted to stick with Roxio because I was somewhat familiar with how it worked... Any help would be appreciated.
Bill

I've never used GK, but I do have another way that might work.
Get Fair Use Wizard and extract the dvd to avi.
Separate the audio using virtualdub.
Edit as you see fit in Audacity, SoundForge, Goldwave, or whatever you're comfortable with.
Remux in a good encoder (Mainconcept), reauthor (DVDLab) and burn (Nero).
*Tools in brackets () are the ones I use, and just a suggestion.
You could also use ISOBuster/DVDShrink/DVD Decrypter to rip the video/audio from the dvd, saved as mpeg. Edit the audio, then reauthor/burn without having to re-encode.
I'm sure there will be suggestions on other tools to use to do it that way.Cheers, Jim
