Has anyone heard about a firmware crack for this drive for bit setting? I really would hate to buy another dvd-burn just for dvd+r's. This will probably be the last plextor drive that I buy until they get there act together on the bit-setting and dual layer issues.![]()

There is no hack for the Plextor 708A drive. You want bitsetting then purchase a LITEON drive. LITEON has a official utility to use BITSETTING. Or you can get a NEC drive that uses a hack for BITSETTING. In my opinion the Plextor 708A has better writing quality than the LITEON drive. I can burn the same movie with both the LITEON & PLEXTOR drive. The LITEON burned disc has a tendency of not being able to playback in certain standalone dvd players. The PLEXTOR burned disc will play in all of my standalone dvd players. I have more problems with the LITEON burned disc. Remember that's my opinion.
