According to a post on Doom9's frontpage:

Another one to void the warranty of your DVD burner: It is possible to upgrade the LiteOn SOHW-812S 8x dual format burner to a SOHW-832S burner, which adds dual layer capabilities. You can find results of the
added dual layer capabilities in the cdrinfo forum

I've been trying to follow this as well today since I own the LiteOn SOHW-812S. The part that is confusing me is which firmware to flash the drive with.

In reviewing the website for codeguys.rpc1, they show three different firmwares - a stock firmware, a patched firmware and a patched firmware with burn adjustment release 2. These are all for the LiteOn SOHW-832S.

They also have firmwares for the 812S as well as the Sony DRU-700A.

I don't plan on flashing my drive at this time since I can't even find DL media. But I did save all the firmwares for possible future flashing.

Can anyone give me some directions on what firmware I would want to use to change my 812S to the 832S should I so decide in the future?

    Many thanks.
