  1. Ive recently bought a Yamada 6600. Plays divx cds fine. I've got a digital camera that i use for short films-very good quality 30fps and 640x480-which i have copied to a cd-r. They play fine on my pc but my dvd player does not play them. I thought it was supposed to play AVI files. I don't want to convert them 'cos i'll lose quality. Please help!

  2. AVI files can contain any of a number of video and audio formats. Your DVD player can play AVI files with Divx/Xvid/MPEG4 encoded video but apparently cannot play AVI files with DV encoded video.

Try using Gordian Knot to convert the DV to Divx or Xvid. I know that you are worried about the loss in quality but give it a try first. Quality of video is subjective ofcourse, but I was amazed at the quality using GK to convert to DV to DivX. Check out the guides at www.doom9.org.
