i doubt if a recorder you buy in america will record PAL at all. you're probably better buying a recorder from a PAL country, it will definitely be multisystem compatible.

The Philips is the best made of the brands you listed.
My understanding is that a USA model Philips will record PAL but only from the "line-in" inputs i.e., composite and S-video. The RF tuner input can only work with NTSC.
Also please note that the DVD disc will be PAL format if you are inputting a PAL signal.
However I believe the Philips can convert a PAL DVD to NTSC on playback. I think it can also do the opposite (play back NTSC DVD as PAL).
I don't have one though so all I have said is based on stuff I have read here on the forums in past threads/posts.

P.S.
Any disc you record on this will be REGION FREE but remember a USA model will be REGION ONE so as far as playing back original DVD discs yes it can handle NTSC and PAL but will only play back REGION ONE and REGION FREE discs. It won't play back say a REGION TWO PAL disc. Although there might be a "hack" to make it region free ... I know many of the Philips stand alone DVD players have such "hacks" available."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

Check the Cyberhome thread for others thoughts.
In short good picture, But due to heat issues (Run very hot with the cover on) I run it with the cover off and that way it runs cool.
Warranty issues:
BUY LOCAL where you are.
You'll most likely have a problem getting any warranty service outside of the purchase country. If you don't mind having to ship back to the U.S. for warranty then of course ignore this section.

Almost forgot , CHeck for region free hacks since you're going outside of region one. Cyberhome, I've seen it posted here, has one and you can check the others under the DVD Hacks on the left side of the screen.
Good Luck
