  1. I was wondering if anyone around here has bought those blank "Movie Reel" DVDs from Verbatim. The face of the discs look like a movie reel, and they're actually pretty cool, but the price is ridiculous.

I just thought it would be cool if somebody would be kind enough to scan the face of the disc and post the image online, so that other people could get that design onto a printable white DVD-R (or even onto a label).

If you have one of these discs and are up to the task, I would REALLY appreciate it (as well as plenty of other people, I'm sure). Just make sure you scan it at high resolution (set your scanner to 300 dpi, or "high quality")

    Any takers?
    Thanks in advance!

Why don't you download the real DVD covers instead? Those Verbatim discs are outrageous.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

I bought 50 of them, last month, when Best Buy had packs of 25 for $27.00 and have had nothing but success with the 12 that I've used so far.

Actually, one of the reasons that I bought them was my nightmare with making labels. Our set top player is extremely unforgiving with any DVD with a homemade label. I had to remake all of the copies of my kids DVD's that I had made for them to use.

  4. 25 for $27.00!!! Damn, I've never seen them that cheap. Must have been in a spindle, right? Anyway, would you be willing to scan the face of one of those discs (at high resolution), and post the image?

I'm not talking about using these for ripped movies. I just like that "movie reel" design and would like to use it for some of my projects.

Yes, they are in a spindle. Best Buy has them listed today for $45.

I'll try to do that sometime over the weekend, inbetween watching the kids in the pool and chasing the wife. I'm a .Mac member, so I'll just stick it there and post a link.

  8. Somehow the image you scanned came out to less than 2 inches at 600 dpi. After cropping the image, and scaling it up to 5 inches (the diameter of a dvd) it comes out to about 160 dpi.

A 5 inch image at 300 dpi would have been ideal, but even so, it was very cool of you to take the time out to do that. I appreciate it, and I'll try to make due with what I've got. I'll have to see how it looks in print.

    THANK YOU AGAIN!

    Sorry about that.

I didn't realize that the image size was so small.

    Let's try it again at 5" square & 300dpi.

  11. NICE! Now I can actually see the lines that make up the "film" in the reel.

    You da man!
