Hello, I tried using Smartripper to rip the VOB files off my DVD which it did. I was told somewhere that a VOB and an MPG file are exactly the same thing and that I could rename the .vob to .mpg and everything would work fine. Well after ripping the VOB files to my hard drive, I did rename the extension to .mpg and it played in the BSPlayer and Windows Media Player just fine. However, when I try to drop the file onto the Vegas timeline, it ONLY puts the video track and not the audio on the timeline. Can someone tell me how to successfully be able to take a DVD and get standard MPGs that Vegas will be able to read? Am I doing something wrong with smartripper?

    Thanks for your help,
    Mike

Demultiplex the vob files with VOBEDIT. You need individual streams. VOB files will contain video, audio, and other stream information that renameing doesn't get rid of.

what exactly do you mean by demultiplex the vob files? does that mean separate the audio from the video? if so, what format does this vobedit output in terms of audio?

ok, so what I've found out is that I can demux the .vob files to separate audio and video streams. However, is there a way to just remove the "other stream info" from the vob so that the file becomes a standard mpg that I can open up in Vegas to edit?
