  1. Hi all!

I ahve been making small movies for a while and still having the same problem.
I used to have an HP burner and I now have a Pionner burner, which burns all kinds of DVDs (+, -, RAM)
My friend's player is a Zenith and all the DVDs I am making are working in his but I can't get any DVDs to play in my dad's which is a Panasonic RP62. In some players they work, in some others they don't. I tried sevral things (changing software, going from a DVD+ to a DVD-, setting my software to "For DVD Player" to "For DVD recorder) it simply can't work in all DVDs. I spent a lot of movie already on non-working DVDs (altought they play in some players).
    What can I do???
I used Arcsoft Showbiz, WinDVD Creator and Ulead Video Studio but it doesn't change a thing. Moreover, I once used Verbatim DVD+ and it did owrk in my dad's player but when I try with another (made just the same) it doens't work.
    Am I missing something?
    I need help....BIG TIME!

There is a button on the left of the screen in these forums marked "DVD Players". Click on it, type in the make and model of the player you want to know about, and it will tell you all you need to know. Your dad's player appears to be compatible with DVD-R and DVD-RW.

It is unrealistic at this stage to expect all formats to work in all players. The DVD-Video system is not just one format that one company dictates to all others. It is a myriad of systems all designed to deliver performance rather than simple universal compatibility. Having said that much, both +R and -R will work on different players, whereas RAM seems to pretty much be computers-only at this stage.

  3. Trick question. I don't think there is a way to guarantee 100% compatibility. You have to take the media into account as well as the DVD player itself. I would try high quality disks while ensuring your resulting DVD is in fact DVD compliant. Also ensure you DVD player wil play burned media and whether or not it will play +/-R material. Many factors, wish I could be of more assistance....

since you have a pioneer burner i would go with high quality -R, that's your best bet.

Take your burnt DVD to a replicator and have them press it. Either that or just deal with the same compatibility issues everybody else using writable DVD media has to.

Just a thought...my Philips DVD711 will NOT play burned DVD+R, only DVD-R; and will not play any DVD-R less than 4GB in size...I have to burn all movies to at least 4GB or more...I have to make "pad" files to make the total size of the disc 4GB or more...

    like I said...

    just a thought
