Feel free to point out any glaring errors/omissions I should fix.
Also feel free to keep your thoughts to yourself if they're not completely complimentary! (just kidding).
I thought this site could use it's OWN decent guide, instead of linking out to "that other" site 8)

Baldrick, It's misspelled on purpose. Olde English Dictionary lists that as the correct, original spelling of the word. Call it a Canadian quirk I have

Great work. Comprehensive without being too complex.
    Thanks for the effort.

  7. Two things that kicked my ass for a while is having to put 255 in the menu timeout block to make to go back to infinite. Typing "inf" in there won't work (no matter how hard you push the keys ). Also that automatic thing that links all the buttons together never works right for me. I have to do it myself every time.

I have had no trouble with the "automatic link thing", other than having to manually link the movie BACK to the menu, so the menu button on my remote works, otherwise it either does
    a) nothing, or
    b) returns to firstplay

If you leave "inf" in that box, it will stay. If you change it to anything, and then later want inf again, you DO have to put in 255. It's a bug, and has been discussed on the mediachance forums.

We might be talking about two different things. By automatic link I mean those green and red arrows that control where the "up" and "down" arrows on your remote control go. I can't seem to get back to the title page either. I ended up making a "Return to Title Page" selection on my menus and link them to the title page. I like DVD lab, it's working well for me...

  10. compleat

First widely used as the title of a "people's" auto repair manual published in 1969, now in its 19th edition:

How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot

The whole "Dummies" series of books are based on this concept - make it easy to understand and pitch your book to people who want simple step by step instructions.

The Compleat Angler : or, The Contemplative Man's Recreation
    by IZAAK WALTON

This predates the auto book by 300 years. Printed 1653.

And the spelling was in use way before someone misspelled it to the form we use today. Probably goes back another 5 or 6 hundred years.

    Cheers,

    George
