    Hi alinero,

When you say "Region 2 encoding", I'm gonna assume you mean a Region 2 DVD - if not, please state what it is that's Region 2 encoded.

Use something like SmartRipper or DVDDecrypter to rip the VOB (and associated) files to your hard drive - there's an option in these to make them region free (same as Region 0) - this is less limiting than Region 1. I believe that you can also specify a desired region: Region 1 in your case.

    Hope that helps. Good luck...

No problem. There's plenty of guides and "How To's" on this site, so you should find something there if you need help.

The guides usually include burning info too.

  5. When backing up a dvd using DvdDecrypter you can removed the region encoding so the disc will be region free.

What your problem might be that the region 2 disc may be PAL, and playback of that disc on a US NTSC dvd player might be a problem.

    Good point, broadwayrock.

@ alinero: Some machines don't play a different format at all, some allow the viewer to manually switch from NTSC to PAL and back again, and some are automatic.

Removing region coding is very easy.

Converting PAL to NTSC is doable (versus NTSC to PAL which is harder). Read the guides and pick one. Or check your settop player to see if it will convert on the fly (both of mine will convert NTSC:PAL and PAL:NTSC on the fly with excellant results).
