  1. I formatted my hardrive last week an now i have come to burn some DVDs and i find that my DVDRW drive will no longer burn at the correct speeds for my media. I updated the firmware as my drive would only register as burning dvds @ 1x before hand. I updated the firmware then it will now only burn @ 2x! the problem is my DVD-/+RW drive burns at 8x. The media i have been using is 4x and i have burnt stuff on these dvds at 4x b4 but now it will only burn at 2x no matter what burning program i use or what media i use! The site for the my drive is www.drvupdate.com

any help at all would be appreciated

    Thanx

need more info like what is the brand of dvd burner you have. is DMA enabled? what ide channel is it hooked up to? primary master, slave, sceondary master, slave? XP is sometimes weird that it will change the dvd burner to PIO mode which will make you burn a lot slower. take a look at this site on how to enable DMA mode using XP:

you may have to delete the ide where your burner is hooked up to then reboot and see if it automatically goes into DMA mode. make sure the drive is being recognized in your BIOS, set it to AUTO so it can detect the drive. if not then follow that link i gave to you up above.
