Well, we all now that the P4 comes with the SSE-2 multimedia instructions in its core, however, how useful are these instructions ?
I will mostly be doing massive Video Editing and Converting (in VCD and SVCD *NOT* Divx) and also DVD ripping-SVCD converting.
Just for the record, I use the following programmes :
SmartRipper (for DVD-Ripping)
DVD2AVI
tooLAME (for MPEG-1 audio encoding)
VDub (for applying filters and frameserving)
TMPGEnc (for (S)VCD encoding )
Adobe Premiere (for editing *long* captured movies)
1) How useful are the SSE-2 instructions for the job I'm doing ? As far as I know, none of the above programmes benefit from these instructions.
2) Does anyone know if the upcoming versions of those prorammes will benefit from SSE-2 ?
Thx in advance.

TMPGEnc already has SSE-2 optimisations.

Version 2.0 of TMPGEnc is SSE2 enhanced and you can use SSE2 in VDub by checking the box under Option-->Preferences-->CPU. DVD2AVI uses SSE and I don't see Jackei adding SSE-2 support any time soon. TooLAME dosen't really need it because its fast as hell already and SmartRipper doesn't need it either. Do have any info on Premiere.
