What kind of pop-ups are they? Are they adverts or system errors?
You could try running Lavasoft Ad-Aware - do make sure it's fully up-to-date. This should sort your problem out if it's advertising or spyware.
Good luck,

they're not pop ups as in the internet adverts, but regarding programmes/ software i have installed. I was told how to do it a whiile back in windows, but can't remember what i did- i didn't need other s/w to get rid of them though

Do you mean disabling XP's balloons?
go here: http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/windowstips/story/0,24330,3362976,00.html"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Nah, its not the message ballons, but the programme "pop up" messages like i said. Its more irritating than anything

You will have to go into the preferences for each program and tell it not to display a startup screen.
This is assuming you're talking about program popups like Antivirus...ZoneAlarm....etc. -
I'll have a go at doing that but I'm sure that when i did it before i had to change an option in XP and not the individual progs that pop-up.....
