hblood: Unfortunately, SVCD is limited to around 2000kbps bitrate, and simply remuxing to a dvd compliant mpeg cannot improve the quality by some magical formulae. DVD's generally have a bitrate that is at least 3 times that, and hence the quality.
If you want to burn your SVCD's to a dvdr, I would suggest you do just that, putting about 4 or 5 hours of svcd compliant mpeg on a dvdr.
You do need a decent authoring program to do that, but it sure cuts down on the number of disks lying around
