  1. I am using DVD shrink, and was wondering if it was possible to force them to burn it at 8x. Any help would be appreciated.

If this has been covered, I couldn't find it in the search sorry.

  3. I have an NEC 2500 8x DVD burner. My pc is an athlon xp 2600+ with 1 gig of ddr 3200 ram. 200 gig hd and am running win xp pro. I bought some Ritek G04 1X-4X DVD-R. I have been using DVD shrink to back up my media, and then it will start the burn process in nero. I was wondering if there was a way to make it burn 8x, even though my disks are 4x.

  5. So it's based on my burner, and not my media that I am burning to?

I think the rating on the media is the recommended highest speed from the manufacturer. I know with CDRs I had some that were rated at 32X but could be burnt at 52X.

Generally it is because when the 4X media was released, the best burners were 4X. The media could quite possibly be burnt quicker than that, but the manufacturer would look stupid calling them 8X discs when 4X burners are the quickest available. Having said that, some media is locked in the speeds it can be burnt at.
    If in doubt, Google it.
