    Hey guys

i really need some help here, i have wave files i need to either change to PCM (dvd compliant) or AC3.

Ive changed them to AC3 with both ffmpeggui and besweet but although they work fine on the pc, dont work well on my standalone players, eg only 1 out of my 3 will play it. The pioneer (i know it has issues with this brand) and JVC wont play them while the Philips will.

so is there a way to make a compliant AC3 that will work? failing that i need to take a standard wave file (44khz @ 1411 kbps) and convert it to 48 khz @ 1536 kbps. I tried using tmpeg which although this gives me the file, it sounds terrible and i wouldnt consider using it.

i know the easy option is mp2, but i dont want it. the DVD is going to friends in America and i hear some players dont support mp2 and also i want the best possible quality eg AC3 or PCM.

so anyone any ideas, im desperate, thanks

This is a job for an audio editor like GoldWave or SoundForge.

  3. Barrie,

If you're serious about AC3 encoding, spend the money and buy TMPGencs AC3 2 channel encoder. It can be bought for $30US and is Dolby Digital compliant. It will solve your compatibility nightmares.

It will convert to 48 Khz on the fly.

Even though it is a 'plug-in', it an be used as a standalone encoder. You do not need to own TMPGenc DVD authoring program for it to work.
