    Let's see: 124.416 Mbps into 4.38 GB = 4.7 minutes.

    If you're talking about DV you're talking compressed. If you're talking about MPEG2 you're talking about even more compression.

    Unless you have an extremely short clip, you'll need to have some compression.

    Trick question !!!

    MPEG is a form of compression. In fact, everything is compressed to some degree, in one method of another (DV is 4:1:1 compression).

    Plus VHS is analog. DVD is digital.

    Even VHS had analog compression.

    Does not compute. Please restate the question with proper parameters.

    If it's going onto a DVD, it'll have to be compressed, since DVD only supports MPEG.

    Usually you will take a fixed video clip time and, depending on the length, determine the bitrate needed. The reverse is also true where you can set an absolute minimum bitrate you'll allow for quality reasons, and derive the clip length from that. Any longer and you can divide it into 2 clips and use 2 DVDs.
