  1. Hi All,

I have a question involving transferring recorded movies from my Digital Video Recorder to DVD-RW via my standalone DVD-Recorder and then to my computer for editing. Can that be done? I have numerous movies that I would like to transfer to my computer, edit, then put back on DVD-R or DVD-RW.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

  2. Can you not transfer directly from your digital video recorder to your PC? If so, do it - the less steps there are in the process the higher quality the final product will be.

For editing, you can take your pick of authoring tools.

In answer to your question (in case you can't connect your recorder directly to your PC) is yes, you can take video off of the DVD your standalone produces and edit it. Read the guides on ripping to learn how to do this if you're unsure, but I'd say DVD Decrypter is pretty user-friendly and you can't really go wrong with it.

Once the files are on your hard drive, you should just pick out an editing package and read the guides on it. In the tools section, when you click on a package such as TMPGEnc DVD Author (that's a good one) then it will take you to a further info page. Look carefully and you'll find guides listed under the tool to help you.

  3. Hi Cobra,

Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to connect the digital video recorder to my computer (the cable company has tried their best to prevent that). However, I will try to move my recorded material to my PC and then do the editing as you mentioned. Thanks very much for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.

  4. You're welcome!

It looks like your only option is to use your stand-alone recorder. Use it on the highest quality - when it's on your PC you can compress it down again with a lot less quality loss than your stand-alone would be able to.

    Best of luck,

    Cobra

EDIT - Just thinking about it, you may be better off capturing five minutes or so onto a DVD-RW and testing/finding your method for getting what you want done then go for the entire project. This will save you time, for example if you make a mistake and encode it wrongly, you have wasted 20 minutes as opposed to hours. Go right the way through to burning onto a DVD-RW. That's what I do when I am trying something totally new, and I saved myself a lot of time!

  5. Hi Cobra,

Yes, that's a good point. I'll save myself from making some coasters while I learn the process. You know, before I purchased the standalone, I tried various capture devices. I tried a couple of products by ADS Technologies and they would get too hot and freeze. I was just agout ready to buy an external device made by Canopus but decided on the standalone because I could hook it up directly to my Digital Video Recorder. I have to admit thought that it hasn't proven to be as much fun though because there is a lot less user intervention than I am used to.

  6. So why not go to the Free Download Area of *link removed* where you can even download many valuable but "FREE" software like "PowerDirector Pro v3.0.1110.Retail". But this is not the real web site's url, why?
    PAY ATTENTION TO:
We have to add some digitals into the above url beccause some bad people often hack it, so you can follow the the guide below to get the true one:
(We have to make a "trick hide")
i.e., you will have to remove all the digits like 2,5, 98... from the url mentioned above in order to disclose the correct url^_^
