I use Ulead DVD Picture Show

I find it easy to use , I like the transitions and its easy to add music and title screens with text.
It just does every thing I need with ease.

If just making a slide show...I use Slide Show Movie Maker...fairly straightforward, and pretty good transitions effects. Plus, adding music tracks is easy... Main drawback: it only saves the slide show in AVI format...but that's easily converted to MPEG using TMPGEnc

    Why? IT'S FREE!!!

  5. Memories on TV is another - I happen to like it but haven't done a comparison against the others.. it's pretty easy to use and does nice transitions, encodes and authors and can burn, or you can take the encoded streams and use your own authoring / burning if you like

also, on the 'why', the adjustment of slides to song length is good and the panning / croping control, esp. w/ the new version, is very good
