  1. Hello, I wanted to make a backup of one of my anime movies "Bastard" and to preserve full quality I was going to split the episodes up into two dvds, while keeping the menu's. There are 6 eps in total, so i was going to split it 3 eps on each dvd.

My question is: would there be a way to edit the chapter selection screens to a custom image? I used DvdReMake for the first time and i noticed an option to 'export frame', so I did on the 3 different chapter selection screens (they are split up with 2 eps on each screen). So I exported each and edited then so that the first dvd would have the first 3 eps shown as they originally were and the last 3 have a custom banner i made up in photoshop over it saying the material is on the second dvd (and i also did the same for the second dvd saying the first 3 eps are on the first dvd)...But alas, i couldnt figure a way to import those images back into DvdReMake....is there any program that would allow me to accomplish this? Or atleast a way to make those chapter selection screens and then somehow import them to where the original ones use to be.

    Thanks for any help =D

  2. Hmm, thanks for the link, but that really didnt help me ^^; Im not new to the whole dvd backup scene, but im new in the area of dvd authoring and creating menus and such...so im gonna need a little more step by step type of help for this...

Will DVD Maestro allow me to do what i want?

Hmm...If I edit a menu in DVD Maestro, how do i save it as a vob to import it into DvdReMake? Also, how do i set the target of the buttons i make on my menu? It doesnt seem to keep the original targets that the menu had =\ All I wanna do is change the background and keep the targets and stuff in tact =\.

  3. Cool, thanks...But i have another question...

Roger's guide a bit down the page says:
'I'll write it from memory, because I need to do something else now...
Open the vob with menu (in my case it was vts_01_00.vob) in MenuEdit. Find the cell with menu you want to edit. In preview, use "Save as bitmap" to save the picture as bmp. Edit it.
Open it in some encoder (I used TMPGEnc) and render that BMP to m2v.
Now open that vob in VobEdit and do "Split" by "CellID". You'll get several separate vobs, one cell each. Now use "Remux m2v" (it should be in Edit menu) on that small vob and choose that rendered m2v video with your edited bitmap.
Now open it in MenuEdit again and use "Replace" on that cell with remuxed vob you've got in previous step. Then repair ifo as described on MenuEdit pages.
That's it - of course, you don't change buttons or something like that, I just wanted to translate/edit some buttons.'

Now i captured the bmp already and edited it...but i dont understand how he says 'Open it in some encoder (I used TMPGEnc) and render that BMP to m2v.' How does one do this in TMPGEnc? I have the program but i just dont know how to do that.

  4. Open the BMP as a video source and encode at 8000 kbps as an elementary stream.
However, if you have another encoder, use it instead. TMPGEnc is not very good at encoding still images.

  5. Which program would you suggest petar?

  6. I actually encode with TMPGEnc and I like it, it's just that it's not very good with still images. I compared it once with the CCE trial for still images and CCE did a much better job.
If you don't have any other encoder, you can use your authoring application as one. Any authoring application can encode still images so just create a dummy menu with your BMP as background and then demux the mpeg2 with Vobrator.
But it may be too much work over nothing. Try TMPGEnc first. Then if you're not happy with the quality, try another encoder or an authoring tool.

  7. Ok, well I just used TMPGEnc, but now i encountered another problem...When I 'Now open that vob in VobEdit and do "Split" by "CellID". You'll get several separate vobs, one cell each. Now use "Remux m2v" (it should be in Edit menu) on that small vob and choose that rendered m2v video with your edited bitmap.' I can split it by cellID no problem...and then i found the right menu vob i wanna edit...so i reopen vobedit and select edit->remux m2v but this gives me a huge 1gig file that wont open in my dvd player...so its no good...now, if i dont reopen vobedit after i split it by cellID and then choose edit->remux m2v then i only get a 2KB file, which is no good too...=\

Is there another program i can use to remux the m2v over the vob I get when i split it by cellID?

  8. Don't delete the other cells (all other small VOB files) before doing the remux m2v.

  9. Well, I followed his directions exactly as he stated, but it doesnt seem to work for me. Once I navigate through the menu to the parts i edited, the screen gets distorted/freezes and then just goes to the main menu...

I did see my edited menu, but then it just went to the main one...

Any ideas on what to do anyone?

  10. Did you get at the end a normal size cell, not 1G or 2k?
Did you edit the ifo file after replacing the cell with MenuEdit? It seems to me that this part may have failed for you.

  11. Yep, I figured out how to get a normal sized cell...and I did try to edit the ifo following instrutions on http://menuedit.dimad.net/ht_me_update_ifo.html...the only problem where i got some errors was the last step ' 11. Do not forget to do "Get VTS Sectors" on ifo files in your VIDEO_TS directory when you are done with all titlesets.' because when i pressed 'get vts sectors' i wasnt sure on what to pick on the popups that came up and whatnot...

But other than that, i followed the instructions perfectly and everything seemed to work...=\ Not sure why it froze.

  12. Well I retried ifoedit and i did get it to do the 'get vts sectors'...but still it froze...maybe i am doing something wrong in ifoedit? Im not sure, but i followed the guide on that site and i didnt get any errors this time around...so i dunno...

EDIT: Could the problem be my replacement VOBs? Cuz even though i followed the steps to making them from the bmp files this just refuses to work...I even tried the whole process in DvdReMake (instead of going through menuedit, just open my dvd in dvdremake and replace the specific cells with my vobs) and it still refuses to work...its a bit odd id say...Im just about ready to give up and just rip out the menu and just throw the episodes onto 2 dvds...
