I am using ATI AIW 9000 to capture VHS tape to MPEG2. I have produced several DVDs so far and the quality is great.

My question to those of you who are sagely in the art of videography is; how do I produce an MPEG that will have closed caption, if that's actually what I'm looking for, that will be recognized by my TVG filter which edits cursing?

My MPEGS aren't recognizing the bad language therefore the 'cuss' filter is rendered ineffective.

  2. Hi,

I have ATI AIW8500 DV using the latest MMC 9.0, you can capture closed caption with their VCR format. But so far I have not found a way to make the MPEG files contain closed captions. I haven't tried their Export to MPEG feature for the VCR format file. I should but ....

I like to be able to capture closed caption with MPEG format so that I can easily burn DVDs. I have a bunch of saved VHS tapes that I want to convert to DVD with captions.

It's called sub-titles on DVD. And yes they work really good. In fact they're better than closed caption because you can pick the font, font size, and location on the screen. Plus it doesn't black out your screen.

Haven't you ever watched a commercial DVD and turned on the subtitles?

Making an automatic conversion from closed caption to an .srt (subtitle source) file is not possible as far as I know. Thats another issue.

  4. Ive been watching closed captioning for years. Its still pretty expensive. You need a captioning card, about $1,500 ?? & software. I thought I saw that you could do it on a Mac without those.
