  1. Hi everyone... in most ways this question/issue is self-explanitory but I just wanted to get a few more opinions. I am converting a bunch of my old VHS videos and home movies to DVDR. I record the the HD first, insert chapter markers, then do high speed dubbing to DVDR. About 30-40% of the time I have a write error right when the disc starts burning. The recorder shuts off, turns on and displays "recover." I can usually use the disc again and it will work. However, the new chapter marks I've inserted in the video/file I'm trying to high speed dub will be erased and I'll have to reinsert them. This seems like a disc issue to me, not so much a recorder issue - has anyone else had this issue? I use DVD PRO DVD-R discs from meritline.com - $1 a piece and they have worked in all of the players I've tried them in. I should probably be using another media but until I can buy them at $1 a piece I find it hard to justify it unless mine don't do what I want them to (but they do). As a side question what is the best media for this recorder? Thanks for the feedback and help!

  3. But doesn't recording in FR mode prevent you from having chapter markers?

yes... only dubbing in HS mode will retain custom ch.p. (ch.m.)

I've had the DMR-HS2 for a year, it would burn anything you threw into it. I've had the E80 for a month, it is picky. I bought some of the Comp USA brand and they burn every time - no problem. These are Princo discs. You can pick them up for less than 1.00 a piece in a cakebox of 50.

    Hi there,
I have a lot of write errors with my PRINCO A-GRADE PRINTABLE dvd disks....the first one hundred Princo DVD disks were without problems...then I got error U11 error message when I wanted to record a program (VHS recorded to HDD and edited). I wasted maybe 30 disks and brought the unit to a Panasonic service centre. They tested it and found no fault with the unit (DMR-HS2). When I got the unit back and wanted to burn my first DVD I got the same error message again. The Panasonic technician told me that Panasonic only recommends their own disks. Panasonic apparently found many problems with other disk brands as the quality of the disks (layers ????) leave much to desire....He wanted me to bring the faulty disk (Princo) so they could investigate this as it hadn't happened with superior quality brands. I told him that I recorded 100 disks with no hiccups and he thought they Princo might have compromised with quality control. I contacted Princo and first got a reply asking for batch number etc....when I gave them the info I didn't hear back from them....

My conclusion is that the Princo disks are probably of inferior quality to those of Panasonic...then again the price of Panasonic disks are probably 3 times more expensive....so if u want cheap disks thats what you get!!!!

  7. I currently do a lot of VHS-to-DVD recording and my DMR-E60 never failed. I only use Maxell, TDK and Sony brands. Watch closely your local Walgreens weekly sale. They almost always have a great deals on DVDR media. About two weeks ago I bought a few cases of 10 Maxell DVD-R for $12.00 (each case)

Well, if you're ever in California, come on over and you can watch me burn a whole box of 'cheap discs' without fail - looks like the jokes on you.
