I just made the mistake of picking up Syphon Filter: Omega Strain for the PS2.
When the gane loads you are forced to sit through the opening FMV. Then, the game loads and an error message comes up that states "No Sony Dualshock Analog Controller is present, Please insert controller in port 1.
WTF?!!!!
I removed and reinserted the controller about 12 times. I tried on 2 different PS2s. This is a storebought original disc not some bootleg or download.
There is nothing wrong with my controller or PS2s. The contoller is a MadCatz- I don't have the original Sony controller anymore.
Has anybody else been able to play this game? Is my disc defective? Or do you have to use a Sony controller to play? Is there a patch that will fix this problem.
If anybody knows anything about this, help would be greatly appreciated. I've lookled all over the net and I can't find anything about this.
Thanks

It's most likely the controller and the way that the code in teh game identifies the type of controller.
Sounds like you might have to spend on getting an authentic DualShock2 controller. -
Your problem: Its Mad Catz. Mad Catz = crap.
Sony tends to want people to use their official accessories (Its why the Magicgate encryption scheme exists for the memory cards) and I could see them making games incompatible with controllers somehow. They have made games that can search for modchips running in a PS1, I wouldn't put this controller thing past them...but it could also just be the controller not working properly. My Mad Catz Dreamcast controller was total garbage ever since I took it out of the packaging. -
Wow! That's insane!
I'll sell the game on Ebay or return it before I'll let Sony bully me into buying another controller. It's a matter of principal
I agree that Mad Catz is not the world's greatest controller, but I'm not paying $30 for a controller when I can get one for $10. Besides, I've had this controller for two years and I've never had any problems with over 100 rentals/purchases. So I'm happy with it
Thanks for the replies guys. -

I don't know. The controller says "Dual Force" on it. And it shakes and vibrates during specific moments. That always seemed pretty pointless to me .I can't imagine how that could be neccesary to any particular game.

Yeah if its not Dualshock 2 compatible for certain games the joystick wont work its all analog for for dualshock 2 pads even the D button (the four way left, right,up, and down). Some games require a full analog controller and the D pad is digital for dualshock 1
For instance in madden 2004 the harder you push down on the D pad the harder the players run -
Ok, I guess that makes sense. I'm still not buying a $30 controller to play one game. But I'm much less po'd now.
My friend's PS2 broke and instead of replacing it, he bought an Xbox. Maybe I can get one of his controllers. Otherwise, I'll just sell Syphon Filter or give it to a friend.
Thanks for all the info guys. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. -
