Is it a good idea to capture using XVID? The file size is considerably smaller than Huffy or Gpeg 1.0. I capture at around 2000 khz or so.
Anybody else try this?

XviD is a good choice if your not going purely for quality, or space is an issue. It has a much higher compression ratio than Huffman, at the cost of some video quailty. An XviD encode at 2000Kbps will look fine for most clean video. If your capturing from an analog source, you may see a drop in quality due to the noise that will invariably be present.
DVD Rips converted to XviD, however, should look very nice at that bitrate. II've seen excellent quality encodes with a bitrate as low as 900Kbps, or even lower, if you use Multi-pass encoding (not an option for captures).Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
