Sound like a classic problem of crappy media
Only time I get this is crappy media
Don't buy crappy media (bulkpaq orange = Princo = crappy media)
Or shrink to < 4Gig then put on crappy media(normally works).
Only buy non crappy media. G04 or TY

1st thing I would try is a change of media, Ive got a couple of spindles of media that is suitable only for data (I hope) simply because they cannot be burned to/read from the outer 5 - 10% of the disc.
Movie only DVD9 to DVDR guide.

  7. How old is the DVD player you are trying to play on? I wouldn't be too quick to jump on bad media. Sounds like you Standalone dvd player is just having troubles reading the disk.
