I am currently backing up some media files onto CDs. I have some files that are a little over capacity for my CDs and I want to trim the beginning off. I have used VirtualDub before to cut AVI (divx) files but I dont know why the files I am looking at right now cant be trimmed. The size and content stays the same no matter how deep into the movie I cut it.

    Thanks

You must be doing something wrong. Once you open the avi in Vdub click the mark in button. Drag the slider about halfway and click mark out. Make sure direct stream copy is selected in the video menu and save as avi #1. Go to the edit menu and select delete, go to file and save avi #2.

Virtualdub cuts on key frames. Is this file properly indexed? In the preview window when you are near the area to cut, try the advance to keyframe button and then apply the start point there, then move to the end point and mark that also and then apply the cut. Some files are created with too many frames between keyframes. This makes it difficult to cut a few seconds from the front of an avi.

Yeah, the keyframe was the reason why I couldnt cut where I wanted. I had never used the keyframe button before. In the past all I did was cut cut cut. haha

I did a search awhile back but I didnt realize what I found applied to me.

    THanks TG and GLL.
