  1. I just bought a Zenith DVB410 from Future Shop Canada.
There is no info out there yet on this machine. It plays everything that I put in it but it has a problem with the menus on a downloaded dvd.
On my other player the menu comes up and highlights "Play Movie".
On this player it comes to the same screen but never highlights any of the choices. If I push DVD Menu button, it stops, and then I push play and the movie begins okay. Could it be because my other machine is region free? Or is this a different problem.
The dvd plays fine on the pc also. Can I tell the disc's region on my pc?

I can get into the Prom Edit screen with the standard "pause, 1,4,7,2 " It looks like this:

    Prom Edit 1 43

    EEPROM : 43 41 00 47 02 55 74 FF

  2. Actually, I have no idea about the menu. But, the fact that it will still play the movie is a good sign. Just curious, what else you threw at it? VCD's? SVCD's? KVCD's? MP3. photo-cd's etc? And how does the quality feel for a mid-level machine. at $80 it fits nicely between the sony's & panasonics's at $100 vs. the cheap player's at $50. The cheap player's that I've looked at all had terrible remotes and feel cheap. Does the zenith compare well with the higher end models?

  3. Your thinking along the lines I have been for some time. Not wanting the cheapest player but still waiting for a better machine that does everything. I was tired of waiting, not wanting to buy the cheap looking $60 Daytek. I will do a review once the machine shows up on the list and I finish checking it out. (Only had it for a few days) For now though I'll tell you that I have played:
    VCD
    SVCD
Pal SVCD (alot of the better ones don't)
    DVD-R
    DVD+R
    DVD-RW

On the unit it says, Kodak Picture cd, Windows Media, Mp3,
    DTS, Dolby, Proscan etc.

The remote is one of the nicer ones I've seen.
As far as quality, I see no reason why it can't be in the league of the overpriced units.
One quirk was that when I set up a title screen in vcdeasy on a svcd, was that I map out the default key (usually on most players "Play") to start the movie. On this player I had to hit next.
I had two new machines. The Akai 5 disc from London drugs for $99 but when it choked half way through a dvd-r, I slipped it into the Zenith which didn't even think twice.
